First Team - Hamilton Panthers 4 - 2 Haxby

After a pretty much perfect pre-season, it was back to business minus a couple of players. It was a new (or old) look Panthers, with many of their old stalwarts returning. That said, we were confident we would have the legs to get a result. Twenty minutes in and it was goalless, we looked like getting the upper hand after being under the cosh, but that was undone when they nodded in a goal from a cross that should have been stopped. Our heads seemed to go a bit after that, conceding another 2 in quick succession after some pretty awful defending. We grabbed a life-line with the last kick of the half though, Mendy controlling well on the edge of the box and finishing into the bottom left corner. 3-1 at half time. Tony let rip and we started to put some pressure on. After 5 minutes, Rich Burnett nodded in from a corner to put us right back into it. With our tails up, we soon threw it away. Probably offside, their winger got free and finished well to make it 4-2. Plenty of time left, but we never really carved out any glaring chances. We looked a bit panicky and nervous. A bad result after a great showing pre-season, but we never gave up and if we'd have been a bit more clinical we could have got something.

Goals: Wishart, Burnett

M.O.M: Barnes
